The motion passes out of committee!

Today the LA City Council's Rules, Elections, and Intergovernmental Relations Committee voted in favor of the motion to study the feasibility of establishing a democracy vouchers program in the City of Los Angeles, including options for full public financing!

The motion now heads to the full City Council for a final vote—and we'll let you know when it's been scheduled to appear on the agenda so we can turn out in support.

We're grateful to Council President Krekorian and Councilmember Price for their vote in committee—and for Councilmember Raman, Councilmember Harris-Dawson, and Councilmember Soto-Martinez's leadership for co-presenting this motion. We appreciate Councilmembers Hernandez, Park, and Yaroslavsky for seconding the motion.

Finally a deep, heart-felt thanks to all those who came out to give public comment (virtually and in-person), the organizations who joined our sign-on letter, and the Neighborhood Councils that have submitted Community Impact Statements. Thanks to you, our city is one step closer to understanding our options for expanding our campaign finance system to empower all Angelenos, regardless of income, to participate in our democracy.

More to come soon. Until then, have a great weekend!
